IR photography

A while back I did a conversion of a point and shoot (Canon Powershot A470) into an IR camera. It involves taking the IR filter out, which is just in front of the CCD and replacing it with exposed film. The exposed film acts like a visible light filter.

Truthfully I have tried this conversion on five or six point and shoots... only one survived. My old Olympus took one picture then died.

It was a lot easier to find a cheap IR filter on the web.

Anyway the reason for this post is to share this link:

which I have to try with my photos, all of which are still at the pink stage.

And now I must pick up the skittles I dropped.

Damn you W80!

As you may or may not know, I have been trying to kill my W80, which I did once by freezing it. Oddly I got if fixed under warranty!

This weekend I once again had the chance to strap it to my mask as I played paint ball for my brothers stag.

We wore some clown wigs as he hates clowns.

Sadly my W80 didn't get shot, and lives on to take pictures of which ever deadly experiment I put it through next.

as always you can see all the results here [Flickr]

Digital Light Leaks Part 2

I took apart my trusty Casio Exilim EX-S10 today, to see if I could make it produce digital light leaks.

It went well for the most part. The shell came apart easily, and the the lens housing came out nicely. Splitting the Lens from the CCD was simple as well, with the disconnection of two ribbon cables.

I took a few pictures with the lens point one direction, CCD another, and flash in another.

The last picture it ever took:
After that the gears for the lens extractor popped out, and the camera would no longer power on. :-(

Sadly this is a poor send off for the compact camera that has out lasted every other point and shoot I have owned, even with its cracked LCD screen...

Digital Light Leaks

I have a new goal, its to introduce light leaks into a digital camera. I tried it with an old Canon A70 I had laying around...

I took the camera apart, and removed covers as I went. I even got the lens connection loose. I was unable however to produce the results I wanted, before the camera failed to power on anymore. I should have learned my lesson the last Canon A70 I tried to mod (remove IR filter) also failed.

Next attempt, using my old Casio Exilim EX-S10...

I have a blog!

Mostly to copy Marc, and to record all my little photography experiments.

I am not trained or actually know anything, I just break stuff.
